The President is correct we do need responsibility, accountability, common sense, and comprehensive immigration reform. He is also correct that the federal government has failed its people on this issue. But the president is dead wrong to criticize the Government of Arizona for trying to protect its people with the few resources it has. Unfortunately the basic notion of fairness that we cherish that the President mentioned has already been undermined in this country by the Government allowing people to break the law and live in the United States illegally. All too often illegal immigrants are held to a lesser standard of the law and society than the American people and those immigrants that are here legally. As an American I have my own social security number, I carry ID on me to prove my identity, I pay taxes and obey the laws of the land. Illegal immigrants broke our laws to get in to the country and continue to do so to remain here. The same way I get in trouble and have to answer for a crime I commit so should they. I do believe that we need to change our immigration laws. Good people who want to come to the United States and become Americans should have the opportunity to share in Americas promise (however it needs to be in accordance with the law).
